Types of Commercial Roofs
Florida is a pretty wet and sometime windy state, so many people look for roofing material that can keep water at bay. Traditional shingle roofs are the least expensive option and when installed and repaired correctly, can last for up to 20 years or more.
Thermoplastic: One of the most common commercial roofing systems being used in today’s market is thermoplastic roofing. We recommend thermoplastic roofing because it is highly durable and cost effective. We install thermoplastic roofs which can resist extreme temperatures, UV radiation, the harsh effects of the ozone layer as well as chemical exposure. Thermoplastic systems (TPO) can last for an average of 20 years and be able to withstand strong winds, fire and punctures. We recommend this type of roofing on large warehouse buildings, modern high-rise buildings and other high-end and office building applications.
Terpolymer Olefins (TPO) are rolled membranes with thicknesses of .045, .060 and up .115 mills. Some rolls are fleece-backed sheet membranes that are adhered with adhesives, asphalt or are mechanically attached over insulation and other suitable substrates. Seams can be robotically or hand heat-welded (fused) together. These products typically are white in color providing extreme reflectivity.
EPDM: For a versatile and exceptionally durable roof, we recommend EPDM roofing systems. EPDM roofs are installed using a rubber roofing membrane known as ethylene propylene diene terpolymer. EPDM roofing is one of the easiest to install. We can install it either fully adhered or mechanically attached. We recommend EPDM roofing because it is easy to maintain and repair.
EPDM is manufactured into large sheets for application to insulation or other suitable substrates on a roof. The material can be loose laid and ballasted with rock or pavers to hold the membrane in place. It also can be fully or partially adhered as well. Seams and the membrane are adhered with contact adhesives, with seams always sealed with a sealant to provide watertight redundancy. This product is available in black and white.
PV solar panels: If you are looking to save money each day the sun rises, then let us design and install photovoltaic panels on your commercial building. Photovoltaic panels, also known as PV solar panels are attached on the rooftop. These panels absorb sunlight and use it to produce electricity which then powers various electrical components of your building We can work out a system size, reasonable budget and provide financial models to determine an approximate ROI if you want to consider a green imitative by installing solar panels on your roof top.
Green roofing: Although new to Florida, we can also offer a wide range of green roofing alternatives which can be installed on commercial buildings. We can install green roofing systems to help you save on heating and cooling costs. Companies with green roofing systems can also secure some tax benefits depending on their state. Green roofs also lengthen a roof’s lifespan by promoting proper insulation.
Garden or “Green Roofing” is a relatively new concept in the United States, with Chicago Roofing Contractors Association members leading the way in garden roof applications. Garden roofing has been used for centuries in Europe as a way to reduce the need for air conditioning in buildings. Garden roofs also may meet code requirements for reflectivity of roofing in urban area, reducing the heat-island effect.
The jury still is out about the amount of heat island reduction attained with garden roofing when asphalt roads and parking lots, plus building facades all radiate as much or more than roofing systems.
